The 2nd General Lyceum of Gerakas, Attica, participated in the “Adoption of Ancient Theatres” Action during the 2022–2023 school year, as part of the educational programme of the “Diazoma” Association, in partnership with the “Festival della Filosofia in Magna Grecia” organization. As part of the project, an educational trip was carried out to Southern Italy, specifically to Pompeii and Lecce in Apulia, as well as to the ancient theatre of Dionysus on the Acropolis in Athens. Through these visits, students gained insight into the origins and development of ancient Greek theatre, exploring both its similarities and differences compared to Roman theatres, odeons, and amphitheatres. Divided into groups, the students presented to their peers the distinct features of ancient theatre at each site — the theatre of Dionysus, Pompeii, and Lecce — and explained how these structures evolved over the centuries, serving not only artistic purposes, but also functioning as landmarks and reference points for ancient Greek city-states and later the Roman Empire. Based on the students’ research and presentations, an e-book and a video were created and published on the school’s website.
