The Metauros - Gioia Tauro archaeological museum presents the history of the ancient city of Metauros, a colony founded by the people of Zancle (modern-day Messina), which held a strategic and commercial role before coming under the influence of Locri in the 6th century BC. The museum displays finds from the large coastal necropolis (7th–5th century BC), documenting trade relations with Mylai, Zancle, Rhegion, and the wider Mediterranean world. It also houses artefacts from the ancient city itself, of Greek or mixed origin, highlighting the long-standing commercial significance of the region.
