The Comitato di Salonicco della Società Dante Alighieri was founded by a group of individuals sharing common cultural and humanitarian ideals, with the aim of protecting and preserving the Italian language and fostering among Greeks a lasting love for Italian culture. The Comitato di Salonicco curates and organizes cultural events to strengthen and expand cultural exchange between Italy and Greece. It collaborates with the central headquarters of the Comitato della Società Dante Alighieri in Rome, as well as with other Comitati in Greece and abroad. In addition, it organizes examinations for the PLIDA (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri) Italian Language Certification, which is officially recognized by ASEP and certifies proficiency in Italian according to the six-level scale, defined by the Council of Europe on the basis of the Quadro Comune Europeo. It also awards scholarships to the top-performing students.
