The Department organizes and hosts scientific conferences, symposia and workshops on a regular basis, with the aim of promoting academic research and fostering international and interdisciplinary cooperation. In this context, it co-organizes, in collaboration with the Archaeological Services of Crete, the scientific meeting “Archaeological Work in Crete”. This triennial event presents the progress of recent archaeological research throughout Crete, covering a wide chronological span, from prehistoric to modern times. Among the Department's most important initiatives is the Workshop on Archaeological Research in Magna Grecia: “The narrative of Greek colonization in southern Italy: Settlers and Natives (Monkeys, Kymi, Metapontia, Ferrandina)”.
